Adjustable calibration sleeves

Adjustable calibration sleeves are available for an "automatic dimension change at the touch of a button" as well as adjustable calibration sleeves which "only" compensate for the different shrinking effects of each pipe diameter. The change in the shrinkage behaviour is caused by changing material and wall thickness.

Both calibration techniques have advantages and disadvantages. However, the current market situation demands cost-efficient and short-term amortisable solutions which can be achieved using simple adjustment sleeves. In this case, one sleeve is required for each pipe diameter.

These simple adjustment sleeves must be able to:

- compensate for differences in the shrinkage behaviour resulting from various materials and different wall thicknesses

- improve the tolerances of the pipes

- substantially reduce the conversion times

and thus increase the availability of the extrusion lines as well as the quality of the pipes and save material.

A "simple solution" is achieved by providing parts of the sleeve with slits (see patent No. EP 1048 434). To this effect, the segments are pressed together at the end of the sleeve.

The segments are pressed together at the end of the sleeve by means of a cone which is also patented. This type of adjustment can be achieved at low cost and meets the requirements such as compact design as well as simple operation and maintenance.

An important factor is the design of the infeed area and the number of slits. The number of slits has an influence on the cooling effect of the sleeve and pipe surface.

For the intensive cooling function in the infeed area, WRS has developed a water pressure regulator which ensures that the pressure is independent of the flow rate.

Additional criteria for adjustment sleeves read as follows:

- The external diameter of the adjustment unit protruding into the vacuum tank. (The external diameter is a decisive factor for the usable diameter range of the vacuum tank.)

- The adjustment including scaling must be easy to operate and conveniently arranged.

Sales: Adjustment sleeves

Until now, our calibration sleeves were marketed by CCA GmbH in Löhne according to Patent No. EP 1048 434. In order to intensify sales, we established a sales department for calibration sleeves.
